Alachua County - Alachua County Florida, innovative and committed to partnering our community resources for the combined benefit of all.  Holding the #1 ranking for traditional recycling in the State for three years in a row, Alachua County has the local leadership to make things happen.  From our local politicians to our businesses, our students and staff, you will see how a medium sized County takes food waste composting to a different level.  Peddle powered small scale composting for restaurants in the Gainesville area with the compost being used at the restaurants and in community gardens.  And a larger commercial scale food waste composting project utilizing food waste from Publix and the University of Florida.

Gainesville Compost - Gainesville Compost is a pedal powered community compost company founded in 2011 by Chris Cano and Steven Kanner. The company works with restaurant and residential clients to divert food waste from the landfill and toward a network of composting systems established through community partnerships. The initiative has been widely acclaimed in Gainesville, with media coverage in over 18 online and print publications. The bicycle-powered composting program has inspired similar active initiatives in other cities, including Los Angeles and Austin. In Gainesville, sister company Kanner Karts manufactures bicycle trailers for Gainesville Compost and other businesses and residents that are choosing to leverage pedal power.
