(Ocala, Fla.) Recycle Florida Today (RFT), Florida’s statewide recycling organization is marking springtime — the season of renewal — by encouraging Florida residents to renew their support for environmental initiatives by purchasing a recycling-themed license plate.
“As Floridians welcome the spring season, they can also renew their commitment to a cleaner more sustainable state by choosing Florida’s new specialty recycling-themed license plate,” said Tim Lamontagne, RFT’s board chair. “We hope many Florida residents will opt for the new plate to help put forth environmental initiatives that will in turn benefit the planet.”
Drivers may elect to purchase a voucher for the new plate for $32.50 in addition to the yearly registration fee. The proceeds from the sale of the new plate will benefit the RFT Foundation that will use the donations to further recycling and waste reduction throughout Florida. In order to get a voucher for the specialty plate, residents will need to have their Florida driver’s license, vehicle registration, and apply in person at a Florida Highway Motor Vehicle office. The Foundation must pre-sell 3,000 vouchers to move the plate to the production phase.
Since the inception of specialty license plates, millions of dollars have been raised for many causes throughout Florida. “The design for the new recycling-themed plate was chosen because it best represents recycling, Florida, and the natural environment,” said Heather Armstrong, executive director. “The bright colors stand out and speak loudly for the planet, reminding everyone to recycle.”
RFT is Florida’s state recycling organization and premier association educating recycling and environmental professionals throughout Florida from both the public, private, non-profit, and institutional sectors. RFT was formed to be a driving force to help Florida professionals implement its recycling goals and objectives. RFT continues to provide educational and networking opportunities about recycling for all Floridians as well as support to local and state elected officials on laws and regulations affecting the recycling industry.
